What is the problem you are trying to solve? Who does it affect?
We are constantly moving and evolving in today's fast-paced world. But the problem? as people move on in their careers and personal lives, they often lose touch with their colleagues and friends. Finding a simple way to interact and remain meaningful has become difficult. Traditional social media platforms can be overwhelming and they don't feel real anymore. We miss the little things: inside jokes, random snapshots and those "remember when?" moments. People want a space to share memories, relive the good time and stay close friends; even when life gets busy. Thats where Memori comes in!! Let’s be real, there’s nothing like stumbling across an old photo and instantly being transported back to that moment. The laughter, the people, the place, it all comes rushing back like it happened just yesterday. You remember the silly jokes, the way everyone looked, and for a second, it feels like you’re right there again.
That’s what Memori is all about. A place to keep those moments alive, to reconnect with the people who made them special, and to look back with a smile. No pressure, no perfectly curated feeds, just real memories shared with the people who actually matter. Because the best moments in life aren’t meant to get buried in a camera roll or lost in a cloud somewhere, they’re meant to be relived, laughed about, and shared.
What is your idea? How does it fix the problem?
Memori the easiest, most fun way to reconnect with friends and colleagues while preserving your most cherished memories. Forget overwhelming feeds, our app lets you share weekly photos and videos, engage in nostalgic moments, and build real connections through daily streaks. With a simple invite code, you can create private, interactive scrapbooks that capture personal milestones. Whether you're a creative storyteller, a travel enthusiast, or just someone who loves looking back at special moments. Memori ensures your memories are beautifully stored, easily accessible, and always ready to be relived. Say goodbye to cluttered galleries and hello to a structured, elegant way of keeping your stories alive!
How do all the pieces fit together? Does your frontend make requests to your backend? Where does your database fit in?
Our app is designed to reconnect people in a fun and meaningful way. Whilst our app hasn't fully deployed, the frontend will allow users to upload photos, participate in weekly challenges, review visited places and view recaps. To keep things running smoothly, our system will fire off queries to the backend for everything from media uploads and user profiles to tracking exciting challenges. The backend will work on handling user data, managing invites, and keeping everything in check.
All the action-packed content and user-generated memories will be securely stored in a well-organised database, ready to be revisited anytime. According to Etatics, "More than one in three adults (38%) see social media use as harmful". By focusing on authenticity, nostalgia, and low-effort engagement, our app provides a refreshing alternative to overwhelming social media platforms; helping people reconnect without the digital burnout.
What did you struggle with? How did you overcome it?
Our first hackathon was a challenge, but an exciting one. We ran into issues connecting the frontend and backend, struggled with getting media uploads to work, and felt the pressure of time ticking away. Even though we got given 24 hours it felt like time was moving at 2x speed. But through problem-solving, teamwork, and quick learning, we pushed through and got key features working. One of the best parts? The sheer number of creative ideas we had. From interactive scrapbooks to location-based memories, every team member brought something unique to the table, and it was incredible to see our vision take shape. In the end, we didn’t build a perfect app, but we built something we’re proud of and we learned a ton along the way. Most importantly? We survived our first hackathon, and we’re already excited for the next one!!
What did you learn? What did you accomplish?
Even though this hackathon was packed with late-night coding sessions and constant problem-solving, we made it through! We quickly learned that debugging is a lot like detective work, just with a lot more time spent on Stack Overflow. We also realized that frontend and backend need effective communication—they don’t just sync up on their own. And of course, time flies when you're in the middle of a hackathon, so prioritizing features became key. I really loved working with my team and truly appreciate the effort everyone put in. We ended up creating a practical prototype that brought our idea to life, got media uploads, challenges, and user interactions mostly working, and learned a ton about collaboration, fast thinking, and adaptability. Beyond building an app, we gained confidence, new skills, and a real appreciation for good debugging tools!
What are the next steps for your project? How can you improve it?
The next steps for our project involve refining and expanding on what we’ve built so far. First, we want to finalize the challenges to make them even more fun and engaging. Also, introducing a specialised "scratch password" system at the ennd of each month that would automatically generate and email users a unique password for their monthly recap; this ensures the system is secure and user-friendly. We're also focused on enhancing the user experience, so the app is more intuitive and easy to navigate, with more interactive features to keep users connected. On the backend side, we plan to scale it up to handle more users and optimize the database for better performance and security. Once we have that in place, we'll conduct user testing to get feedback and identify areas for improvement. Finally, we’re looking to add more social features, like comments and groups, to help users engage with friends and colleagues in new ways. We’re excited about how this project is shaping up and are eager to keep improving it!
